So one of the gals I photographed at Anime Expo 2008 tells me cosplayers been gathering at a J-Pop/J-Rock night in Los Angeles and that I should swing by and check it out. The monthly event is called "Tune In Tokyo" and looks like they started in December of 2008 (that makes June's event the 7th one). Sounds like fun and I'll go check it out. It is on June 18th, 2009.
Perhaps in the future I'll take all my photo gear and maybe do some portraits too....but I've been focusing on conventions and I think I may just stay with the convention theme but I'll swing by and check it out - I mean, the club is really just a 15 minute walk from my office and if I get out early enough, I can always take the subway back home.
2nd Street Jazz Club (In Little Tokyo)

Los Angeles, CA 90012

Cover is $5 for 21+, and $10 for 18+. A free soda ticket is included for guests ages 18-20.
Surrounding them was a crowd of camera phone-waving club kids dressed as though they jumped out of the pages of the magazine Fruits. There are ganguro gyaru and gyaruo here, girls and boys sporting ultra-deep tans, bleached hair and brightly colored street fashion. There are kids dressed in decora, a hodgepodge of striking colors and prints accessorized with piles of dollar store jewelry and toys, and himegyaru, princess looks complete with gloves and tiaras. And, of course, there are Lolitas everywhere. If this were a weekend in Harajuku, the scene here might not turn heads, but it's Thursday night and we're in Los Angeles. ( from LA Weekly)
Our next event is Thursday, June 18th. With convention season rolling in, we know everybody's busy working on their cosplay. Why not debut your new threads at Tune in Tokyo? That's right! TnT on 6/18 is Cosplay Night!
Tune in Tokyo encourages and celebrates all kinds of Japanese fashion, and that includes Cosplay! So, if you want to try out a costume in-progress, or make your big debut, our June 18th event is the perfect place! Our photographers will be on hand for a fashion snap as well. Be sure not to miss them! (from myspace.com/tuneintokyo)
