Tell me about the outfit you are wearing – who are you cosplaying and how did you decide to pick this particular character ?

I am cosplaying as Super Sailor Mars, from… well, Sailor Moon! I had never really thought about cosplaying as Sailor Mars until my best friend, Pockyfairy, mentioned she’d like to do Venus. I was hesitant at first, because I don’t do very many feminine costumes, especially with short skirts! But once we got these costumes all finished I actually really enjoyed wearing it. Except, 5 inch stiletto heels will kill ya!

Tell me about the process of making your outfit – was it easier or tougher than you imagine it to be ?

Well, Pockyfairy and myself worked together to alter a good leotard pattern for the many bodice. She made the patterns for just about everything else and I mostly just went off of what she did. The skirts were more trial and error to just get it to look right. They were definitely a bit more complicated then I imagined they would be.

Any interesting stories from people’s reaction to your outfit at the con ?

Haha, well, we’ve only worn these costumes once, so nothing too interesting. Just guys being guys, hah.

How did you get started cosplaying and what got you interested ?

Well in 2003, my friends took me to my first anime convention. I made a sort of renaissance style garb to wear because I was not aware of what cosplay was. After going to that convention and seeing all the amazing costumes and the people who wore them I decided I’d like to do it too! I didn’t start very simple, tried making Kakashi from Naruto pretty much right off the bat, but to this day I still have people asking me how I had made certain things.

What are the con did you first attended and what’s your favorite con that you’ve attended so far and why ?

A-Kon 2003 was my first con to attend. Back then it had just moved to the Adams Mark and wasn’t too crowded. My favorite con would have to be… Animefest? It’s such a laid back con compared to any of the others I’ve been to. This past Animefest was probably one of my favorites. I got to hang out and room with people I rarely get to see and had a great time with them!

What does cosplay mean to you?

Cosplay at first was a way to meet people who had similar interests with me. After meeting some of my closest friends through this hobby, I’ve really loved meeting new people and getting to know them outside of the cosplay community. It’s also just an outlet for my boredom most of the time, though I really just enjoy sewing in general.

If you had unlimited funds/technology/time, what is your dream cosplay ?

Ah man, I’ve always hated this question… because there’s just so many. And it continually changes. I guess right now, Allegreto from Eternal Sonata? Or Domino from Marvel Comics.
