Tell me about the outfit you are wearing – who are you cosplaying and how did you decide to pick this particular character ?
I am seen as afro cow, but to all those who know me I am Lambo from Katekyo Hitman Reborn! Lambo is my favorite character from the series, especially the 5 year old version. He is loud, obnoxious, and a cry baby, but for some reason I like him for that. I wanted to cosplay Lambo because he makes me smile, plus I knew I could just be myself as him!
Tell me about the process of making your outfit – was it easier or tougher than you imagine it to be ?
To make Lambo was pretty easy. All I did was purchase a cow kigarumi, a giant afro wig and some devil horns from a Halloween shop. I just put on the cow kigarumi, and then the wig – since the afro was so huge it was easy to wrap around my chin and strap it there with clips. The with the horns, we spray painted them yellow and clipped them into the hair. Thank goodness makeup was not an issue here, just had to add the magical cross hatch marks to the cheeks and PRESTO! you have Lambo~~~
Any interesting stories from people’s reaction to your outfit at the con ? ^^
It was great the first time I came as Lambo, a lot of people knew who I was from! I was so amazed how many others liked Lambo as much as me~~~I got a lot of hugs (or glomps) from people, even from those who had no idea where I was from…they just knew I was a cow with an afro! LOL So as a gift to all those who knew who I was from (or said Lambo’s name), I laughed for them just like Lambo would in the anime – GWHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! So I started to have people remember me as the one who can laugh like him, which made me more happy ^^
How did you get started cosplaying and what got you interested ?
I’ve always been a fan of anime/manga and always wanted to dress up as my favorite character, but I was too shy to do anything about… until I met my friend who showed me the light! We would make outfits from scratch or thrift shops and just dress up for fun at home, not quite ready for the big anime cons! 0_o
What are the con did you first attended and what’s your favorite con that you’ve attended so far and why ?
Our first ever anime convention was Anime Expo 2006, and it has been our favorite thing to do since then! I remember my first official cosplay was Ruki from Gazette; I was the Shadow VI II I version! The other cons I’ve only been to were Fanime, Yaoi-con, and Sacanime so far, but AX is still #1!
What does cosplay mean to you ?
I always thought of it as dressing up as your favorite character, to be able to put yourself in their shoes for the moment! To forget all boundaries of dressing up as either a male or female, and just having fun with it!
If you had unlimited funds/technology/time, what is your dream cosplay ?
OMG if that were true, my list could be endless! If I had to choose I would want Naraku from Inuyasha! I wear the fur coat with the baboon head, but I could take it off and still look like him (in the series)!
